The complete IBO Player setup guide

IBO Player is the only application OTTTV supports, and this is everything you need to get it running — installation on every major platform, playlist registration, the settings worth changing, and the fixes for the two problems that generate most of our support messages.

IBO Player runs on these platforms — one active device per subscription

Why OTTTV supports IBO Player and nothing else

IBO Player is built by a development group called IBODEV, and it has one property no competitor matches: it installs on almost every operating system a viewer is likely to own, including the closed-source smart televisions that most IPTV apps simply cannot reach. Samsung's Tizen and LG's webOS force developers to strip features to fit inside the platform's rules, which is exactly why you will not find several well-known players on those sets at all.

Standardising on one application is a deliberate support decision. One app means one settings screen, one known-good configuration, and a technician on our desk who has already seen the specific problem you are about to describe. If you would like to know what the line itself delivers before you install anything, our channel line-up page lists every category.

Honest limitations, stated up front

IBO Player cannot record content and has no multi-screen mode. It also uses remote playlist activation, meaning credentials are entered on IBODEV's web portal rather than typed into the app. And after a short evaluation period IBODEV charges a small one-time device licence, paid to them, not to us. None of this is hidden further down the page because none of it should be a surprise on day one.

Installing IBO Player on your device

Android phones, tablets and TV boxes

Android is the easiest route because you have a browser and a file manager right there.

  1. Open the IBO Player official website in your browser and download the Android installation file (APK).
  2. Android will warn you that the file came from outside the Play Store. This is expected for sideloaded apps — choose Download anyway.
  3. Open the downloaded file from your notification shade or Downloads folder.
  4. Select Install and wait for the confirmation.
  5. Open the app. An introductory screen explains the playlist process — read it and select OK.
  6. The dashboard loads. Leave it open; you will need the details on it in the next section.

Windows 10 and 11

The Windows build is 64-bit only and requires Windows 10 or newer.

  1. Download the Windows installer from the IBO Player download page.
  2. Windows SmartScreen will interrupt because the file did not come from the Microsoft Store. Select More info.
  3. Select Run anyway to continue.
  4. Work through the installer with Next, ticking the desktop-shortcut box if you want one.
  5. Select Install, then Finish to launch IBO Player.

Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube

Fire OS needs a sideloading helper because IBO Player is not in Amazon's store.

  1. From the Fire TV home screen, move up to the magnifier icon and open the search field.
  2. Type D — the Downloader app appears as the first suggestion. Select it.
  3. Select the app to begin installing, then confirm with Download.
  4. When Fire OS asks Downloader for media access, choose Allow.
  5. Open Downloader, highlight the URL field above the yellow Go button and press OK on the remote.
  6. Enter the official IBO Player download address, select Go, and install the file when it finishes downloading.
  7. Launch IBO Player from your Fire TV apps row.

macOS (MacBook and iMac)

  1. Download the macOS build from the IBO Player download section.
  2. Open the downloaded file and drag the IBO Player icon into your Applications folder.
  3. Open Launchpad and select the app icon. macOS will refuse the first launch because the app came from outside the App Store.
  4. Open the Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the security section and select Open Anyway.
  5. Confirm with Open Anyway. The choice is permanent — subsequent launches go straight through.

LG (webOS) and Samsung (Tizen) smart televisions

This is the group most Canadian households actually own, and it is where IBO Player earns its place. The steps below use an LG set; Samsung and Toshiba are effectively identical.

  1. Open the LG Content Store (or the Samsung Apps store on a Tizen set).
  2. Select the magnifier icon in the top right to search.
  3. Type IBO Player.
  4. Choose the correct result. Several similarly-named apps exist — you want the one named exactly "Ibo Player".
  5. Select Install.
  6. Select Launch when installation completes.
  7. A welcome message appears on first run. Continue to the playlist section below.

Finding your MAC address and device key

IBO Player identifies your installation with two values that you will need in the next step.

  1. Open IBO Player on your streaming device.
  2. From the main dashboard, select the person icon.
  3. Look at the Device Info panel in the top-left corner. Your MAC address and device key are both shown there.
  4. Write them down exactly, including punctuation. Photographing the screen with a phone is faster than copying by hand.

Registering your OTTTV playlist

IBO Player uses remote playlist activation, so the credentials we send you are entered on IBODEV's portal rather than into the app itself. Their cloud then pushes the playlist to your device.

  1. On any computer or phone, open the IBO Player website and select Manage Playlist from the top menu.
  2. Enter the MAC address and device key you noted above, then sign in.
  3. You are now in the playlist management area. Choose one of the two methods below depending on what OTTTV sent you.

Method A — Add Playlist (M3U / streaming line)

Use this if your OTTTV welcome email contains a single long URL.

  • Playlist name: anything you like — "OTTTV" is the obvious choice.
  • Playlist URL: paste the streaming line exactly as we sent it, with no trailing spaces.
  • XMLTV EPG URL: leave this empty. IBO Player pulls guide data from the playlist automatically, and our EPG is already embedded.
  • Protect this playlist: tick this and set a PIN if children use the television.

Select Save when you are done.

Method B — Add XC Playlist (Xtream Codes)

Use this if your email contains a username, a password and a host address separately.

  • Host: the server address from your OTTTV email.
  • Username and password: exactly as issued, case-sensitive.
  • Playlist name: your choice.

Select Save. Both methods produce an identical result — the XC route is simply easier to re-type if you ever need to.

First run: Live TV, Movies and Series

Return to IBO Player on your television and restart the app. Your OTTTV line appears with three sections populated: Live TV for the channel grid, Movies for on-demand films, and Series for box sets. If the sections are still empty, close the app completely and reopen it — the portal push can take a minute to reach the device.

Fixing the cramped Live TV layout

This single setting is responsible for more confused support messages than anything else in the app. The default Live TV layout crowds channel names underneath the preview window and pushes the guide out of alignment.

  1. From the IBO Player dashboard, select the screen icon next to the Wi-Fi symbol.
  2. You are now in Live Screen Style. Switch away from the default style to the alternative one and save.
  3. Channel names now have proper room, the preview window fits correctly and the programme guide lines up.
  4. The category column is hidden in this layout by design — press the left arrow on your remote (or the back gesture on a touch device) to bring it back.

Favourites and search

Highlight any channel in the Live TV list and hold the OK button to add it to Favourites — this is the fastest way to build a short list of the ten channels you actually watch out of 22,000. The search function inside Live TV filters the whole grid as you type, which is considerably quicker than scrolling categories with a remote.

Settings worth knowing about

  • Network: shows your current connection status — the first place to look when a stream will not start.
  • Parental control: PIN-locks categories. Set this before handing the remote to a child.
  • Check for updates: run this before contacting support; several reported faults are simply an outdated build.
  • Language: sets the interface language, English or French among others.
  • Clear cache: the correct first move when artwork fails to load or categories look stale.
  • Manage categories: hide entire groups you will never watch to shorten the grid dramatically.
  • Live TV player / VOD player: switches the internal decoder. If one specific channel stutters while everything else is fine, changing the decoder often resolves it.
  • Auto boot on start: launches IBO Player automatically when the television powers on.

Before you contact support

Three checks solve the large majority of issues, and running them first gets you a faster answer from our desk:

  1. Test your connection. Run a speed test a few times across the day. A stable 16 Mbps is the practical minimum and 30 Mbps is what we recommend for HD and 4K.
  2. Switch channel and come back. IBO Player halts a stream when transport breaks for even a second; re-entering forces a fresh handshake.
  3. Clear the cache and check for updates. Between them these resolve most display and artwork faults.

IBO Player questions

Common questions about the application

Android phones, tablets and TV boxes, Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube, Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), macOS, and non-Android smart televisions running LG webOS or Samsung Tizen. That last group is the reason we standardised on IBO Player in the first place — very few IPTV apps reach those platforms at all.

No. IBO Player has no recording function. It is the most commonly raised limitation of the app and we would rather state it plainly here than have you discover it after ordering.

The app gives you a short evaluation window, after which IBODEV charges a small one-time licence fee for the device. That licence is paid to IBODEV, not to OTTTV — it is separate from your subscription and we make nothing from it.

No. IBO Player has no multi-screen feature, and in any case an OTTTV subscription authorises one device at a time. A second simultaneous screen needs a second subscription.

IBO Player uses remote playlist activation: you enter your credentials once on the IBO portal and their cloud pushes the playlist to the app on your television. It saves you typing a long URL with a remote control, and it means re-issuing a line does not require touching the device. The trade-off is that if the portal is unreachable from your network, the app cannot refresh its playlist data.

Yes, and it takes ten seconds. From the IBO Player dashboard select the screen icon next to the Wi-Fi symbol to open Live Screen Style. The default layout crowds channel names under the preview window; switch to the alternative style and save. Channel names get proper room, the mini preview fits correctly and the guide lines up. Press the left arrow on your remote to bring the category column back.
